Will
Wadsworth is a life long resident of Geneseo NY. Inspired by
a trip to Italy will went back to painting, the passion of his
early years. Will attended the State University of New York
at Canton to prepare for life as a crop farmer. Before coming
home though Will attended the Philadelphia College of Art summer
program and one year art foundation program. Eager to get to
work Will put down the brush and went to work on the farm. “At
that time I didn’t feel I had anything to say thru my
art and made a conscious decision to stop and wait until I did,
If I ever did.” |
| In 1985 a local flood forced Will to leave farming. For the
next six years Will ran a successful custom picture framing
business on Main Street in Geneseo. In 1991 Will took a job
with Jones Chemicals, Inc. and spent the next 13 years doing
regulatory compliance and business management work. |
| Will began painting again in the year 2000. “I had stopped
in mid painting back in 1992. The canvas was a landscape and
it had always been on my mind that I should finish it. After
finishing that painting, almost twenty years after starting
it, I noticed that it had an essence missing in my earlier work.”
So I painted another and so on until friends started asking
if they could purchase my work. |
| I owe a great debit of gratitude to my wife Louise and my
daughters Lauren and Piper who have been nothing short of totally
supportive, the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts http://www.gvcaonline.org/
for their members exhibits and encouragement, and all of the
artists who have encouraged and helped me: Dick Beale, Eileen
and Tom Bushnell, Julia Stewart and Gloria Betlem to name a
few. Last, a special thank you to my Mother Pat Starkey Vondruska
without whom I wouldn’t have existed to inherit her deep
artistic aptitude or receive her unwavering and selfless support. |
| “If you live somewhere long enough the landscape gets
into your being. When I am painting I don’t feel like
a technician but like a conduit. Sometimes it amazes me to watch
what is happening in front of my eyes. |
